Zarif, Mexican counterpart discuss boosting bilateral cooperation

Tehran, Sept 14, IRNA Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Mexican counterpart Claudia Ruiz Massieu in a meeting in Mexico City on Wednesday underlined the need for deepening mutual cooperation while reviewing the different dimensions of bilateral relations.


Zarif and Massieu discussed the expansion of cooperation in economic, trade, banking and boosting scientific and academic exchanges.

The two sides also discussed the implementation of the political consultations between the two countries at the level of deputy ministers, exchange of high-ranking political and parliamentary delegations as well as cooperation to boost cooperation in the social spheres, including combating drug trafficking and elimination of poverty.

The Mexican foreign minister said that she would pay a visit to Iran soon.

Zarif arrived in Mexico City on Wednesday morning local time to confer with his Mexican counterpart on issues of mutual interests and regional developments.

Later in the day, Zarif is to leave Mexico for Venezuela where he is to attend the ministerial meeting of the Non-Aligned Movement (NAM) which is to be held on September 15-16 (Thursday and Friday) in Margarita Island in Venezuela.

NAM summit will be held on September 17-18 with the participation of presidents of leaders of the organization's member state, including President Hassan Rouhani of Iran.

President Rouhani will cede chairmanship of the 17th round of NAM meeting to Venezuela.
