World needs commitment to establish peace

TEHRAN, Sep. 09 (MNA) Irans Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Gholamali Khoshroo addressed the UN General Assembly High-level Forum on the Culture of Peace on Thursday.

Irans Permanent Representative and Ambassador to the United Nations (UN) Gholamali Khoshroo addressed on Thursday the General Assembly High-level Forum on the Culture of Peace which was attended by Ban Ki-moon, the Secretary-General of the United Nations, and officials from many member states.

The subject of peace and the culture supporting it, after 7 decades from establishment of the UN, should be the most important issue of the entity uniting all the members for decisive action, reiterated the Iranian envoy to New York, Will to establish peace should be prioritized to all other interests to guide all aspects of the UN.

Referring to many years of debate over peace and the literature accumulated upon it, Khoshroo listed a number of elements affecting peace and stability like under-development, extremism, terrorism, respect to and observance of human rights and basic freedom, disarmament and complete eradication of weapons of mass destruction specially nuclear weapons, and a host of other elements that strengthen or weaken peace in the world.

What the world needs today is an international commitment to change for peace, asserted the Iranian diplomat, a radical and fundamental change in methods and behaviors which have turned old, repetitious, and common to have a fairer, more morality-abiding, and more democratic world formed as sustainable peace is a fair peace.

Touching upon the crimes committed across the world by terrorist groups like al-Nusra Front, al-Qaeda, Boko Haram, and Daesh (ISIL), he maintained that a real peace is achievable when the seed of wisdom has been sown with respect to the rights of the others.

Those who establish their identity or power upon contradiction, abandonment, and apostasy are inherently against compromise and peace, highlighted Khoshrou, today the world knows what destructive and absurd ideology is feeding the devil of terrorism, and it knows the ways to counter with it but what is obstructing it from taking a measure is narrow-minded and short-sighted political intentions with special interests for a small group.
