Israeli forces shoot dead Palestinian youth, injure another

Israeli military forces have fatally shot a young Palestinian man and injured another northeast of the occupied Jerusalem al-Quds, alleging that they had attempted to carry out a car-ramming attack.

Israeli soldiers, who had been deployed to the Shufat refugee camp, northeast of Jerusalem al-Quds, for unknown reasons early on Wednesday, opened fire at a car with two occupants which was traveling along a street in the camp, Arabic-language al-Aqsa television network reported.

Local residents said they heard shots being fired and Israeli troopers shouting during the mayhem.

Israeli soldiers then approached the car, and pulled out the slain Palestinian youth before arresting the other one, who had been injured and bleeding.

The locals identified the slain young Palestinian man as Mustafa Nimr from the Dahieh al-Salam neighborhood in 'Anata town, located four kilometers northeast of the Israeli-occupied Old City of Jerusalem al-Quds.

An unnamed Israeli police spokeswoman later said soldiers fired shots at the car on the suspicion that the pair sought to conduct a car-ramming assault.

The occupied territories have witnessed new tensions ever since Israeli forces introduced restrictions on the entry of Palestinian worshipers into the al-Aqsa Mosque compound in East Jerusalem al-Quds in August 2015.

At least 236 Palestinians have lost their lives at the hands of Israeli forces in the tensions since the beginning of last October. The violence has also killed at least 32 Israelis, two Americans, an Eritrean and a Sudanese.
