Researchers use nanotech. to improve addiction tests

TEHRAN, Sep. 05 (MNA) Iranian researchers have used nanotechnology to introduce a quick and very accurate method for detecting addiction.

A research group from Mashhad Branch of Islamic Azad University, Ferdowsi University of Mashhad and Forensic Organization inIranused nanotechnology to increase the accuracy of addiction test.

According to Iran Nanotechnology Initiative Council (INIC), results of this laboratorial research help the detection of addiction background in humans with higher accuracy.

Addiction test result is negative when the blood is tested if the person has not used any drugs for a month or two. In this research, the problem has been overcome by synthesizing magnetic nanoparticles and its application in addiction test.

This method is able to detect the consumption of drugs in people who used the drug 6 months before the test. This test is very important in pre-marriage tests and for organizations that seek recruitment in key positions. The method is quick and very accurate.

Iron nanoparticles have pores on their surface that adsorb drugs due to their structure and functional groups. Nanoparticles were coated with morphine, and the solution was thickened with morphine by repeating the sorption process. Then, the amount of morphine was detected through chromatography methods.

The method of sampling is the most important difference between the presented method and other usual addiction test methods. The sample in this method is taken from a few hairs, and it turns into a solution. The solution is concentrated by using magnetic iron nanoparticles, and it is injected into chromatography device after the preparation.

Results of the research have been published in Forensic Science, Medicine, and Pathology, vol. 11, issue 4, 2015, pp. 497-503.
