Afghan FM to discuss key issues with Iranians in Iran

Afghanistans Foreign Minister Salahuddin Rabbani will pay a visit to Tehran to hold talks with senior Iranian officials on issues of common interest.

Rabbani will arrive in Tehran on Sunday to hold discussions with Iranian authorities about ways to improve cooperation at different levels, IRNA quoted Afghanistans Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ahmad Shekib Mostaghni as saying on Saturday.

He added that the Afghan foreign minister plans to meet his Iranian counterpart Mohammad Javad Zarif and Secretary of Supreme National Security Council Ali Shamkhani.

The sides will reportedly discuss the fight against terrorism and smuggling of drugs as well as avenues for strengthening political and economic cooperation.

Iran and Afghanistan have in recent years succeeded in bolstering relations in political, economic and social sectors as well as the campaign against terrorism and narcotics.

The 5th session of Iran-Afghanistan joint economic committee was held in Tehran in August.

Afghanistan is still suffering from insecurity and violence years after the United States and its allies invaded the country in 2001 as part of Washingtons so-called war on terror. The military invasion removed the Taliban from power, but their militancy continues in the country.
