Lawmaker confirms Iran received S-300 air defense systems from Russia

The chairman of the Iranian parliamentary committee on foreign policy and national security confirmed Wednesday that Iran had received S-300 air defense systems from Russia.

MOSCOW (Sputnik) On Saturday, Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said that Tehran was expecting Moscow tofulfill its commitments onthe rest ofdeliveries ofS-300 air defense systems withinSeptember, adding that the main part ofthe batch had arrived inIran.
"Cooperation betweenRussia and Iran continues, our armed forces continue acquiring Mi-17 helicopters fromRussia. We have also received S-300s fromRussia," Alaeddin Boroujerdi said.

The $800-million Moscow-Tehran contract todeliver Russian-made S-300 air defense systems toIran was signed in2007. In 2011, Iran sued Russia inthe Geneva Arbitration Court afterMoscow suspended the contract in2010, citing a UN Security Council resolution that placed an arms embargo onTehran.

Russian President Vladimir Putin lifted the S-300 delivery ban inApril 2015, shortly afterthe P5+1 group ofinternational negotiators and Iranreached a framework nuclear agreement toremove all economic sanctions againstTehran inexchange forits pledge toensure that all nuclear research inthe country will be forpeaceful purposes.
