The West continues its efforts to quietly suppress growing global opposition, not only to Western plans and policies but also occupations and wars happening around the globe. Their latest form of what lawmakers call illegal censorship has targeted Iranian media. The ban on Iranian media which first started with the Office of Communications known as Ofcom in Brittan-- has now moved to Germany and Spain as well as a satellite provider Eutelsat.Press TV since its launch in 2007 has given round the clock coverage to major events happening around the globe. It has tackled issues such as the crisis happening on Wall Street and the uprisings taking place in the Arab world.
However Press TV has made every effort to tell the story the way it is. Without succumbing to Western demands.
Press TV has also been an opponent to channels like CNN, AL Jazeera and the BBC. Many analysts believe this is what brought on the attack on Iranian media by the West.
Western countries spearheaded by American policy have been placing unilateral sanctions on Iran. They are claiming that Iran is working on nuclear weapons, a claim Tehran has denied profusely saying they are only working on peaceful nuclear energy projects. Europes latest round of sanctions against the Islamic Republic has targeted journalists. Press TVs CEO Mohamad Sarafraz and Press TVs news room director Hamid Reza Emadi have had travel bans placed on them by the European Union. A move which has left many to wonder what the consequences of free speech just may be.
Press TVs news room director has made several attempts to try and get a coherent answer as to why Press TV has been banned from several satellite channels but it appears there has not been any answer to date.
The ban on Iranian media has put the spotlight on the Wests claims of freedom of speech. Just who has the right to decide what is right and what is wrong, and whats allowed and not allowed to be aired on TV? These are questions we all need to ask ourselves because today it is Press TV but tomorrow it could be any other media.
