According tothe Tasnim news agency, Abdul-Salam, a senior official fromthe Houthi movement atKuwait talks, has recently held a meeting withIran's ambassador toYemen and thanked Tehran forendorsing the establishment ofthe Council, which had been agreed byAnsar Allah movement and former President Ali Abdullah Salehs General Peoples Congress party inlate July.
According toAbdul-Salam, the 10-member body is a milestone inreaching a political compromise toend the Yemeni civil war.
Since 2014, Yemen has been engulfed ina military conflict betweenthe government headed byAbd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi and the Ansar Allah movement, also known asthe Houthis, which is the countrys main opposition force. The Houthis are backed byarmy units loyal toformer Yemeni President Saleh.
Since March 2015, the Saudi-led coalition ofmostly Persian Gulf countries has been carrying outairstrikes againstthe Houthis atHadi's request.
