Iran urges implementation of border security deal with Iraq

TEHRAN (Tasnim) Secretary of Irans Supreme National Security Council (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani called for efforts to put an agreement between Tehran and Baghdad on border security into practice.

In a Tuesday meeting with Faleh al-Fayyad, the national security adviser to Iraqs prime minister, Shamkhani stressed the need for accelerating the activities of Iran-Iraq joint committee coordinating the implementation of a bilateral border agreement.

Active involvement of the joint committee in settlement of problems will contribute to economic boom along the common borders and enhance trade ties between Iran and Iraq, he added.

Shamkhani also pledged Irans continued support for the Iraqi government in dealing with the threat of terrorism.

The Iraqi politician, for his part, expressed gratitude to Tehran for its supports for Baghdad in the war against Daesh (ISIL) terrorists.

Iraq has been facing the growing threat of terrorism, mainly posed by Daesh.

Daesh militants made advances in northern and western Iraq over the summer of 2014, after capturing swaths of northern Syria.

Iran is known as the first country to help Iraq in its anti-terrorism campaign and has always voiced support for the Arab countrys territorial integrity, national unity and prosperity.
