Iranian athletes to start competing in Rio on Aug 6

Rio, Aug 4, IRNA Iranian athletes are slated to compete in shooting, table tennis, sailing and cycling fields on August 6 in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, it was announced on Thursday.


According to Iran's Olympic Team Chef de Mission Asghar Rahimi, Iran's squad has 18 flight groups including 15 sports ones and three groups consisting of the supervisory board and sports officials

The Rio 2016 Olympic Games is to be held from August 5-21 with 10,500 athletes from 205 countries who are to compete in 44 articles of 28 sports fields.

Around half-a-million people are expected to visit Rio during the course of the Olympics which has been overshadowed by a number of issues including Brazils political and economic crises, polluted waters, the Zika virus and delays to infrastructure building.
