Iran could become a partner of the international company with involvement of BRICS states' specialists developing SailFish mobile operating system, Ministry of Telecom and Mass Communications of the Russian Federation said in a statement on Wednesday.
MOSCOW (Sputnik) Earlier inthe day, Russian Minister ofCommunications and Mass Media Nikolai Nikiforov and Iranian Minister ofCommunication Mahmoud Vaezi met inMoscow and discussed a number ofissues.
"Vaezi accepted a proposal ofNikolai Nikiforov aboutcooperation inthe sphere ofdemonopolization ofsoftware and is ready toconsider the issue tobecome one ofthe partners ofthe international company developing SailFish mobile operating system," the statement said.
According tothe statement, Nikiforov said duringthe meeting that the devices using SailFish, which was developing bythe specialists fromthe BRICS states were operative inIndia and Finland and would be presented inSouth Africa later inthe year.
In 2015, Nikiforov visited all the BRICS states, namely Brazil, Russia, India, China and South Africa, and presented an idea tocreate an international project that could become an alternative tothe existing mobile operating systems, such asAndroid and iOS.
SailFish is a mobile OS, which is based onthe Linux kernel. The OS is being developed bya number ofcommunities fromdifferent countries.
