Irans Adel Mojallali Moghadam off to Rio Olympics rowing competitions


Irans Adel MojallaliMoghaddam will be taking part in the rowingcompetitions of the forthcoming 2016 Summer OlympicsinRio de Janeiro, Brazil, after receiving a belated berth for the high-status sports event.

The 23-year-old sportsman was handed a Rio Olympics positionafter Russian athlete SergeyFedorovtsev and Alexander Kornilov from Kazakhstan failed their drug tests.

President of the Rowing Federation of the Islamic Republic of Iran Gholamreza Amini said MojallaliMoghadam had just missed out onOlympic qualification, but is now training hard for the contests.

On April 24, female Iranian rower Mahsa Javer also demonstrated praiseworthy athletic skills and strength at the 2016 FISA Asia & Oceania Olympic Qualification Regatta (FAOQR) in the central South Korean city of Chungju,and booked her spot in theRio OlympicGames.

She clocked eightminutes and 5.08 seconds in the march to the finalof the tournament and occupied the second spot.

Therowing contests at the 2016 Summer Olympicswill open on August 6 and run through August 13 at Lagoa Rodrigo de FreitasinCopacabana. A total of 550 athletes, 331 men and 219 women, will be in action at fourteen medal events.
