The Iranian national junior basketball team hascrushed Indonesia at the group stage of the 2016 FIBAAsia Under-18 Championship, and breezed past the Southeast Asiansquad by a nearly three-fold lead.
The young Iranian athletes conquered their Indonesian counterparts 106-40 in their Group B opener of the event staged at Azadi Sports Complex, western Tehran, on Friday evening.
The Iranian mens junior basketball team is slated to face Kazakhstan at 6:00p.m. local time (1330 GMT) on Saturday.
TheIranian players will face counterparts from Japan, South Korea and Lebanon in their third to fifth encounters.
The2016FIBA Asia Under-18 Championship, which marks the 24th edition of thecontinental sports event, started in the Iranian capital on July 22, and will run through July 31.
The Islamic Republic of Iran is drawnin Group B of the preliminary round of the sports event, and has joined Indonesia, Japan, Kazakhstan, Lebanon and South Korea.
Group A consists of China, Chinese Taipei, India, Iraq, the Philippines and Thailand.
The teams placed 1st, 2nd, 3rdand 4thin each group will qualify directly for the quarterfinal round.
