Iran tennis players overcome Turkmens in Davis Cup

Iranian tennis players have achieved victories over Turkmen counterparts at the 2016 Davis Cup Asia/Oceania Zone Group III in Tehran.

The Iranian players maintained their winning streak and basked in another sweet taste of impressive success at the continental sports event on Friday.

Shahin Khaledan took on left-handed Isa Mammetgulyyev in a singles competition at Tehrans Enghelab Sports Complex, and served a number of good aces, which his 19-year-old Central Asian opponent eventually crumbled under. Khaledan downed Mammetgulyyev 7-6 at the end of the first set.

The 26-year-old Iranian sportsman remained in cruise control as the match went into the second set, and unleashed several serves that helped him better the fixture and deservedly edge ahead at 6-3.

Later in the day, Irans Amir Vala-Madanchi claimed the opener against 20-year-old Atlymyrat Gurbanov 6-1, before breezing through the second period 6-1 again for a two-set lead.
