Takht-Ravanchi: Iran willing to expand ties with Romania

Belgrade, July 11, IRNA Iranian Deputy Foreign Minister Majid Takht-Ravanchi in a meeting with Romanian Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu underlined the Islamic Republic of Iran's determination to broaden Tehran-Bucharest relations in all areas, including energy, transportation.


'We are willing to deepen banking transactions between the two countries in line with the implementation of joint projects,' Takht-Ravanchi said during the meeting.

The Romanian foreign minister, for his part, underlined his country's willingness to expand relations with Iran, and said, 'Romania is ready to hold joint economic commission with Iran.'

In a relevant development in March, Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said Tehran and Bucharest are working on an economic roadmap aimed at boosting bilateral trade ties.

'We agreed to hold the meeting of Iran-Romania Joint Economic Commission in Bucharest in the near future after a 12-year delay. We plan to formulate a roadmap for greater economic cooperation,' Zarif said in a joint press conference with his Romanian counterpart in Tehran at the time.

Comanescu, for his part, referred to a meeting of some 100 Iranian and Romanian traders Tuesday morning, and said, 'Good steps have been taken to move towards wider economic cooperation.'

'We also agreed to expand cooperation between Iran and the Black Sea littoral states. Iranian firms can now cooperate with their European counterparts through this new corridor,' he added.
