Fire at Iran's petrochemical complex under control: Official

Ahvaz, July 7, IRNA The firefighters have successfully contained the fire in the Bou Ali Sina Petrochemical Plant in the Iranian southern port city of Mahshar, says the Khuzestan provincial officials.

'The fire is expected to be completely extinguished in the next hours,' said Hashem Baldi, Head of Khuzestan Crisis Management Department of the Governor's Office on Thursday.

Currently, the fire in tower 8001 of the Bou Ali Sina Petrochemical Plant has been completely extinguished, Baldi said.

According to him, the fire in other parts of the plant is hard to contain due to the wind.

Earlier reports by the provincial officials had also suggested that the fire was not threatening the cities of Mahshar or Bandar Emam, another Iranian energy and petrochemical hub.

Started on Wednesday, the raging fire at the petrochemical complex has fortunately caused no injuries or deaths.

The accident has left no tolls or injuries because of the special preparations, said Omid Shahidinia, one of the officials at the provincial crisis management department.

Bou Ali Sina Petrochemical Plant is owned by Iran's National Petrochemical Company (NPC).

It produces 1.75 million tons of aromatics and by-products annually.
