Iran blasts Arab League chief's remarks

TEHRAN (FNA)- The Iranian foreign ministry lambasted the remarks made by Arab League Chief Ahmed Aboul-Gheit against Iran, and asked him to focus his attention on common threats to the Muslim world, including Zionism and Takfiri terrorism.

Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Qassemi described Aboul-Gheit's comments as hasty and unconstructive, and said, "We advise Mr. secretary-general to study the Arab League's past record more precisely and avoid projecting the blame on others over the problems of the region and the Muslim world."

"While, based on its charter, the Arab League should help resolve crisis among its members through peaceful means, it has supported the military attack of an Arab country on another Arab state and has approved of aggression and fratricide," he added.

Qassemi underlined that repetition of baseless positions dont change the existing realities in the region, adding that the Islamic Ummah is needed to focus on common threats, including the occupier Zionists and the terrorist Takfiri groups.

His remarks came after Aboul-Gheit in an interview with al-Ahram daily claimed that Iran is interfering in the regional states' internal affairs.
