Iran appeals to UN to discharge duties about kidnapped diplomats
Tehran, July 3, IRNA - Foreign Ministry marked the 34th anniversary of abduction of four Iranian diplomats in Lebanon on Sunday, appealing to the United Nations to oblige the Israeli regime to release them.

The Foreign Ministry called on the UN secretary general, the International Committee of the Red Cross and other human rights organizations to discharge their obligation in this respect and force the Israeli regime to release them.

The statement reads that while 34 years passes since the agents of the Zionist regime kidnapped Iranian diplomats (Seyyed Mohsen Mousavi, Ahmad Motavasselian, Taqi Rastgar-Moqaddam and Kazem Akhavan) in Lebanon, the Iranian nation and their families are still waiting for their comeback home.

Foreign Ministry appreciated the efforts made over the past several years by the Lebanese government and certain international entities to pursue the issue. Lebanese government in a letter on September 13, 2008 approved abduction of Iranian diplomats in Lebanon.

Foreign Ministry hoped that the diplomats will soon be released from the Israeli prisons and perpetrators of the abduction to be brought to justice.

Iran has once again underlined its earlier request to form an international fact-finding committee to hold inquiry into the case.
