Riga, June 2, IRNA Iranian and Latvian foreign ministers signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) on political cooperation after holding bilateral and private talks here on Thursday afternoon.
Mohammad Javad Zarif and his Latvian counterpart Edgars Rinkevics signed the MoU to broaden the two countries' cooperation in the field of foreign policy.
Zarif and Rinkevics will attend a joint press conference shortly on Thursday.
On his visit to Latvia, Zarif hoped it will be the beginning of a productive cooperation between the two countries.
Both countries should explore different opportunities for cooperation, Zarif noted.
Iran is ready to start practical cooperation with Latvia, the Iranian foreign minister stressed.
He further underlined that Iran is among the safest countries in the Middle East region, saying the atmosphere is safe for Latvia's trade persons.
Prior to his meeting with Rinkevics, Zarif held talks with Latvian President Raimonds Vejonis.
Latvia is the last destination of Zarif's four-nation European tour that started on May 29.
