Minister: 2 new drugs produced per month

Tehran, May 21, IRNA - Minister of Health and Medical Education said that two new drugs have been produced per month during the 11th government.

Speaking in a ceremony held to introduce Iranian pharmaceutical industry achievements, Hassan Ghazizadeh Hashemi said that 60 new drugs have been produced during the 11th government.

He reiterated that Iran imported drugs worth $1.3b in 2012-2013 which reached less than $1 billion in 2014-2015.

Domestically produced drugs which were 57% of the total market in 2011-2012 hit over 70% in the current Iranian year, he said.

Referring to drug shortage as a crisis during the previous government, he noted that drug shortage decreased from 300 items to 30 items in the 11th government.

He added that people had to pay 40% of price of the drugs which has reached 5%.
He reiterated that pharmaceutical exports had twofold growth in the 11th government.

Pharmaceutical industry achievements were introduced on Saturday in the presence of the First Vice President Eshaq Jahangiri, Minister of Health and Medical Education and Irans Deputy Health Minister Rasoul Dinarvand.
