TEHRAN (FNA)- Iranian Minister of Roads and Urban Development Abbas Akhoundi and Kyrgyz President Almazbek Atambayev in a meeting in Bishkek discussed economic ties, specially in the transportation and aviation sectors.

During the meeting in the Kyrgyz capital on Friday night, Akhoundi and President Atambayev discussed mutual cooperation in transportation infrastructures and launching direct flights between the two countries' capitals.


Akhoundi underlined the need for implementation of joint railway with the cooperation of China, Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Afghanistan and Iran.


Atambayev, for his part, expressed the hope that the outcome of the 11th Joint Iran-Kyrgyzstan Commission which was held in Bishkek would help the two countries to deepen their relations in different areas.


In a relevant development last week, Kyrgyz Minister of Transportation and Communication Zamierbek Aydarov in a meeting with Iranian Ambassador to Bishkek called for the further expansion of mutual cooperation between the two states.


"Tehran-Bishkek Joint Economic Commission will convene to review the ways to enhance level of trade and economic cooperation," Aydarov said in a meeting with Iranian envoy.


The Kyrgyz transportation and communication minister reiterated the importance of Tehran-Bishkek Joint Economic Commission, and said, "The Kyrgyz businessmen are keen to take part in joint venture investments with Iran."


The Iranian envoy, for his part, said that holding joint economic commission is effective to explore the existing capacities for trade and economic cooperation between the two countries.


In a relevant development last September, President Atambayev in a meeting with Iranian Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani showed strong tendency towards widening parliamentary as well as economic ties between Tehran and Bishkek.


At the meeting, the Kyrgyz president said that cooperation between the parliaments of Iran and Kyrgyzstan could develop bilateral relations, while establishment of direct flights and connecting railways for the transit of goods could contribute to greater economic relations.


The Iranian Parliament Speaker, for his part, welcomed expansion of long-term trade and economic ties with Kyrgyzstan, and said Tehran and Bishkek could increase cooperation in agriculture, fishery, construction, technical-engineering services, tourism, and science and technology.
