Iran FM to embark on five-state Latin American tour

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif will make a five-leg official visit to Latin America next week following the implementation of the nuclear agreement between Iran and the P5+1 group of countries.

Heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, Zarif will kick off his six-day tour of Brazil, Nicaragua, Bolivia, Venezuela and Cuba on May 8, Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Hossein Jaberi Ansari said on Saturday.

He added that the Iranian foreign minister plans to hold talks with officials of the five Latin American countries about ways to strengthen political and economic relations.

Jaberi Ansari said Iran seeks to enhance balanced ties with world countries, adding that Zarifs visit to Latin America is aimed at boosting Irans relations with nations in this region.

Iran and the five permanent members of the UN Security Council the United States, France, Britain, China and Russia plus Germany started implementing the nuclear agreement, dubbed the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), on January 16. The two sides signed the agreement on July 14, 2015 following two and a half years of intensive talks.

Under the JCPOA, all nuclear-related sanctions imposed on Iran by the European Union, the Security Council and the US would be lifted. Iran has, in return, put some limitations on its nuclear activities.
