Iran, Afghanistan discuss defense related issues in Moscow

Moscow, April 28, IRNA- Iranian Defense Minister Brigadier General Hossein Dehqan and his Afghan counterpart Mohammed Masoom Stanekzai held talks on bilateral ties and regioal issues including the fight against terrorism.

At the meeting held in the presence of Iranian ambassador to Russia, Dehqan emphasized the necessity of establishing stability and sustainable security in Afghanistan, expressing hope that withdrawal of alien forces and the attempts of Afghanistan government and army will result in creating security, welfare, and progress in Afghanistan.

He underlined developing defense cooperation between two countries, adding that defense cooperation will play a major role in containing insecurity.

With respect to Iran's support for Afghanistan in the fighting against terrorism, Stanekzai emphasized developing multilateral cooperation between Tehran and Kabul.

The Fifth Moscow Conference on International Security opened on Wednesday in the presence of 500 participants, including ministers and deputy ministers of defense, army chiefs of staff and experts from many countries.

The meeting is to discuss campaign against terrorism, security issues in Asia and the Pacific, global stability and military cooperation.

In addition to fighting terrorism as the main topic of the conference, security in Asia and Pacific Ocean, world stability and military cooperation are also on the agenda of the meeting.

Dehqan arrived in Moscow on Tuesday and after dlivering a speech at the conference and holding separate talks with the defense ministers of Russia, Belarus, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Armenia returned home Wednesday night.
