Iran purchased Russian S-300 to boost national security - Defense minister

Iran has purchased Russian S-300 air defense systems to safeguard the country's national security, deliveries of these systems have been partially completed, Iranian Defense Minister Hossein Dehghan said Wednesday.





MOSCOW (Sputnik) Dehghan added that he did not discuss potential arms contracts ata meeting withRussian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu onthe sidelines ofthe the Moscow International Security Conference asthe meeting focused onRussia-Iran joint efforts tofight global terrorism.
"Iran bought S-300 toensure the country's security inface ofexisting and potential threats. The delivery schedule envisions different timeframes. Some ofthe deliveries have been completed while the remaining part will be certainly supplied inthe future," Dehghan said inan interview withRT television.


The minister also stressed that Tehran is not planning tobuy advanced S-400 Triumf air defense systems fromRussia.


S-300 (NATO reporting name SA-21 Growler) is a missile defense system designed tofire surface-to-air missiles ataerial targets such ashelicopters, warplanes and cruise or ballistic missiles.
