TEHRAN, Apr. 25 (MNA) � According to the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI), Iran and Czech Republic will soon step up cooperation on construction of nuclear power plants.


AEOI Spokesman Behrouz Kamalvandi said the head of the organization Ali Akbar Salehi is expected to visit Czech Republic next week and from there, make a visit to Slovakia on the last day of his trip to discuss ways for expanding nuclear cooperation.

�After so many years of not being able to�make trips with such aims, we now intend to expand our cooperation with the few number of countries that have nuclear capacities,� said Kamalvandi.

Kamalvandi said only 30 countries in the world have nuclear power plants, and not all have experiences in the field of nuclear energy; �perhaps, there are only 20 countries that have access to nuclear knowledge, and some of them, such as Czech Republic and Slovakia, have been in this business for a long time.�

The AEOI official further maintained that the implementation document for modernization of�Arak reactor will be signed with China in one or two months� time.

He related the cause of delay to the complexities of the implementation agreement, saying �it must be made clear what tasks each country, company and department are going to assume, and this requires a lot of negotiations.�

Kamalvandi went on to add, however, �we are making good progress on this, and in one or two months� time, we can arrive at a point where the agreements could be signed. But technical necessities may require us to wait even longer than that.�
