Federica Mogherini and an EU delegation will visit Iran on April 16 for cooperation consultations.
BRUSSELS (Sputnik) EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini will lead a delegation ofseven commissioners that is due inIran onApril 16 forcooperation consultations, the European Commission said Wednesday.
"This high level visit will launch the basis forfuture cooperation withIran acrossdifferent sectors ranging fromtrade, energy, environment, migration, human rights, toeducation, research and science," the EU executive body said ina statement.
Mogherini will be accompanied byenergy commissioner Miguel Canete, maritime affairs and fisheries chief Karmenu Vella, humanitarian aid head Christos Styliandes, transport chief Violeta Bulc, internal market and industry commissioner Elzbieta Bienkovska, culture chief Tibor Navracsics, and science chief Carlos Moedas.
In Tehran, Mogherini will meet withIranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Zarif, Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani and Security Council head Ali Shamkhani, while commissioners hold sectoral meetings withtheir respective Iranian ministerial counterparts.
More broadly, the top EU diplomat will raise regional issues, including human rights problems and the situation inSyria.
