Putin: Russia regrets certain countries' unwillingness to ratify CTBT

Russia regrets that a number of countries, including those trying to position themselves as global leaders, have yet to ratify the Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty, Russian President said Monday.





MOSCOW (Sputnik) Moscow calls onworld leaders tojoin the treaty and prohibit nuclear exlposive tests, Vladimir Putin stressed.
"The unwillingness ofthese countries tobecome full parties tothe treaty is cause forserious regret, especially given the fact that some ofthem claim tobe leaders and topractically hold special powers indealing withglobal security issues. We again call ontheir leaders toshow real political will and join CTBT assoon aspossible," Putin said ina statement.




The Comprehensive Nuclear-Test-Ban Treaty. was adopted bythe UN General Assembly inSeptember 1996.

All five nuclear weapons states asrecognized bythe Treaty onthe Non-Proliferation ofNuclear Weapons the United States, China, Russia, France and the United Kingdom, are signatories tothe treaty

The treaty, aiming tocreate a legally binding prohibition onnuclear explosive tests forall its parties, will enter intoforce when China, Egypt, India, Iran, Israel, North Korea, Pakistan and the United States ratify it.
