Head of Italian energy giants to meet Iran oil officials

 

TEHRAN, April 11 (Shana) - Eni Chief Executive Claudio Descalzi and Saras CEO Massimo Moratti are scheduled to meet with Iranian petroleum officials in Tehran on Tuesday.

An a high-ranking political-economic delegation from Italy headed by Prime Minister Matteo Renzi heading is traveling to Tehran Tuesday for a two-day visit.

The Italian prime minister is scheduled to hold meetings with senior officials including President Hassan Rouhani, First VP Eshagh Jahangiri, and Parliament Speaker Ali Larijani on April 12-13.

PM Renzi will be accompanied by a 250-strong delegation comprising economic officials, senior managers of major Italian banks, businessmen and industrialists.

Italy is among the first European countries that sent a delegation to Tehran immediately after removal of US-led sanctions, in a bid to hunt out investment opportunities in a ban-free Iran.

Eni and Saras are expected to discuss oil purchases from Iran during their meeting with Iranian energy officials.

During Iranian President Hassan Rouhani's February visit to Italy, the two companies indicated their readiness to buy 150,000 b/d of oil from Iran.

Eni and Saras were Iran's oil customers prior to imposition of international sanctions on Tehran's nuclear agenda.
