Iran to export Caviar, Shrimp to North America

TEHRAN (Tasnim) An Iranian deputy agriculture minister unveiled plans for exporting seafood, including caviar and shrimp, to the United States and Canada in the current Iranian year (March 2016 March 2017).

Hassan Salehi told Tasnim on Friday that there is no obstacle to the export of seafood products to the US.

He noted that Iran is aiming for new consumer markets for its caviar and shrimp in Europe, Southeast Asia, the US, Canada and Russia.

In January, Salehi had announced that Iran has the capacity to export 100,000 tons of seafood to Russia, saying Russian demand is so high that it outstrips Irans exports.

Russia plans to replace Turkish foodstuffs with Iranian, Azerbaijani, and Abkhazian goods to avoid food shortages following Moscows economic sanctions on Ankara.

The move by Kremlin came after Russian President Vladimir Putin approved a bill to impose economic sanctions on Turkey in the wake of the Turkish militarys shooting down of a Russian fighter jet near the Syrian border in November 2015.
