Lavrov: Iran will attend Doha oil talks

Moscow, April 9, IRNA Iran is going to attend talks in Doha on April 17 on a deal to freeze oil output, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov says.

Iran will take part in Doha talks to cooperate on reaching a deal with other oil producing countries on an output freeze, Lavrov said in a recent meeting with his Iranian and Azeri counterparts in the Republic of Azerbaijan capital, Baku, according to the Russian news agency TASS.

The Russian top diplomat also expressed hope that the participants of Doha talks reach agreements to stabilize the oil market.

'I am confident such measures are going to benefit both oil producer and consumer countries,' he said.

Referring to the extensive energy cooperation between Moscow, Tehran and Baku, Lavrov offered to establish ties with other oil and gas producers.

With an output of more than ten million barrels a day, Russia is among major world oil producers.

It exports most of the oil it produces.

The decline in the global oil prices has delivered a heavy blow to Russia's economy as the country relies highly on oil incomes.

Moscow has faced a budget deficit in recent years because of a downfall in oil prices.

Russia needs to cooperate with OPEC members on stabilizing the oil market and improving its economic situation.
