TEHRAN (Tasnim) Commander of Irans Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base Brigadier General Farzad Esmaili highlighted the countrys major strides toward self-sufficiency in the area of air defense, saying that the Bases watchmen have been equipped with homegrown electro-optic systems.

One of the duties of the (Khatam al-Anbia) Air Defense Base is integrated defense of the Islamic Republic of Irans airspace and what the base is seeking is to timely identify and confront threats, Brigadier General Esmaili said in a speech on Tuesday.

Defense in depth is high on the agenda, he said, adding that it requires certain tools and equipment, like long-range radar systems and electronic listening devices.

The commander went on to say that all of the Air Defense Base forces equipment, including electronic listening devices and electro-optic systems, have been developed by domestic experts.

On Sunday, Lieutenant Commander of Khatam al-Anbia Air Defense Base General Ali Reza Sabahi-Fard said there has been a 1.5-fold increase in the number of the Air Defense missile sites across the country over the past five years.

He also noted that the countrys radar stations have doubled in number in the said period.

Thanks to the advanced, homegrown radars, some with ranges above 1,000 kilometers, the Iranian forces can monitor the enemies from home, General Sabahi-Fard added.

Iranian military experts and technicians have in recent years made great headways in manufacturing a broad range of indigenous equipment, making the armed forces self-sufficient in the arms sphere.

Iran has already made it clear that its military might poses no threat to the regional countries, saying that the Islamic Republics defense doctrine is entirely based on deterrence.
