Spanish Foreign Minister planning to visit Iran

Madrid, March 15, IRNA Spanish Foreign Minister Jose Manuel Garca-Margallo said he is planning to visit Iran at the head of a large delegation soonest possible.

Talking to Spains Channel 5 TV, he said the delegation will include chairmen and representatives of a number of Spain leading companies.

He also said that he is going to have political and economic discussion with government and private sector officials during the visit.

The Spanish foreign minister made the remarks on Monday following a meeting of European Union foreign ministers in Brussels which primarily focused in ways of expanding relations with Iran.

Garca-Margallo visited Iran in March 2014 and September 2015. Irans Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif traveled to Madrid in April 2015.

The Spanish foreign ministry resources have said nothing about Garca-Margallo visit to Iran yet.

The two countries have extensive potential for boosting relations in such areas as energy, infrastructures, telecommunications, tourism, heavy industries, food industry and agriculture.

Iran and Spain are seeking to build a joint oil refinery, which will be finally owned by Iran, at the Gibraltar Strait.

The Spanish foreign minister said he hoped the planned refinery, which would be built in the southern port city of Algeciras with local Spanish firms, would be the first of many deals between the two countries in the post-sanctions era.

He made the announcement just two days after sanctions against Islamic Republic were lifted, Reuters reported.
