Iran snatches six more golds in IPC event
Iranian Paralympian athletes have collected six more valuable gold medals at the 2016 International Paralympic Committee (IPC) Athletics Asia-Oceania Championships in the United Arab Emirates, and landed the Islamic Republic at the top of the medal table in the prestigious continental tournament.

On Friday evening, Irans Ahmad Ojaghlou snatched the gold medal in the mens 400m T47 category with a winning time record of 50.65 seconds at the Dubai Police Club Stadium.

Sri Lankan contestant Pradeep Uggl Dena Pathirannehelage clocked 52.01 seconds to pick up the silver medal for his country. The bronze medal went to Papua New Guineas Samuel Nason with 53.58 seconds.

Also in the mens shot put F46 discipline, Irans 46-year-old athlete Ramezan Ali Doolabi claimed the gold medal with his best attempt of 13.14 meters.

Chinese sportsman Zhongkun Wang received the silver medal with a throw of 11.32 meters, and Mahdi Hashemzadeh Shadyari from Iran earned the bronze with 11.30 meters.

Also on Friday, Irans Amin Abdolpour stole the show in the mens 1500m T37/38/46 section and clocked 4:32.50 minutes to be awarded the gold medal. Erens Sabandar from Indonesia and Thailands Surasak Damchoom registered 4:45.11 and 4:58.46 minutes respectively to bag the silver and bronze medals.

Iranian Hamed Amiri and Abdolreza Jojar threw 24.10 and 17.37 meters respectively in the mens javelin throw F53/54 competitions and collected the gold and silver medals. Saudi Arabias Saleh al-Anzi scooped up the bronze with 16.96 meters.

Hashemiyeh Motaghian Moavi also struck the gold medal in the womens discus throw F54-57 class with a throw of 20.83 meters. Faezeh Kermani earned a bronze medal in the womens shot put F32-34.

Moreover, Mohammad Alvanpour from Iran won the gold medal in the mens javelin throw F55/56 discipline.

Iran tops the medal count table with a total of 34 (18 golds, nine silvers and seven bronzes), and China stands second with 24 (13 gold medals, 8 silvers and three bronzes).

India is in the third spot, having collected nine gold, seven silver and nine bronze medals.



The 2016 IPC Athletics Asia-Oceania Championships opened in Dubai, the UAE, on March 6, and will conclude on March 12.

The tournament has brought together about 300 athletes from almost 30 countries, and is ongoing in the Dubai Police Club Stadium.

A total of 29 athletes, 23 sportsmen and six sportswomen, represent the Islamic Republic of Iran at the 2016 IPC Athletics Asia-Oceania Championships.
