Tehran, March 6, IRNA - Restoration project of the outer perimeter of Arg-e Bam Citadel that was started in 2011 has been completed, the public relations office of the Cultural Heritage Organization announced here Saturday.


The Arg-e Bam, in Bam city of the southeastern Kerman Province, was the largest adobe building in the world. It is listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
On December 26, 2003, the Citadel was almost completely destroyed by an earthquake, along with much of the rest of Bam and its environs.

Bam citadel has three perimeters; the two inner perimeters have already been restored in past years, while the restoration of the outer perimeter ended after four years, said Director of the World Heritage Headquarters of Bam and its Cultural Landscape, Afshin Ebrahimi.

Meanwhile, WHHB was also in charge of restoring other historic sites in its vicinity such as the Sistani House, the Grand Mosque, the Second Gate, the Stall and part of the residence area of the ruler of the citadel, he said.

According to him, the restoration of the western yard and of 70 percent of the eastern yard of Sistani House, an Iranian-German joint project, has also been finished, Ebrahimi noted.
