Astara, March 2, IRNA � Azerbaijan Republic extradited 21 prisoners to Iran at Astara border point on Wednesday.


The extradition was carried out as per an agreement to that effect already signed by the Iranian na Azeri judicial officials.

Some 18 men and three women prisoners in Azerbaijan Republic were handed over to Iranian judicial officials.

The prisoners were taken to Hoviq Prison between Astara and Talesh cities to pass health quarantine period.
Director-General of Gilan province prisons office Hamid Hosseini said that most of the prisoners were convicted for carrying drugs.
He said that they are due to pass their remaining prison term in Iran prisons.

On December 12, 2015, some 12 prisoners were extradited to Iran by Azerbaijan Republic.
Currently around 130 Iranians are languishing in Azeri prisons.
