SWIFT banking system operational in Iran

Tehran, March 2, IRNA Managing Director of Bank of Industry and Mine has denied reports that SWIFT banking system has not been restored in Iran, saying that money transfer has become operational since 10 days ago.

Ali Ashraf Afkhami, speaking in a meeting with members of Tehran Chamber of Commerce, further remarked that the SWIFT system was operational in his bank and its confirmation has also been received.

He said since the first day of the implementation of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), January 17, the ban on SWIFT was removed but for the reopening of the systems and resumption of the operation of this process there was a time demand.

The foreign exchange deputy of the Central Bank of Iran in response to those who claimed SWIFT has not become operational had told IRNA earlier that Iran had paid $780 million through SWIFT for its increased share in the International Monetary Fund.

Gholamali Kamyab said Irans share in IMF with 138% increase now amounts to 3,567 million SDR from the previous 1,497 million SDR and consequently Irans right of voting has reached 0.74% from the previous 0.62% and this has been done through SWIFT.
