Tehran, Feb 23, IRNA - Azeri President Ilham Aliyev said on Tuesday that Azerbaijan government made objection to UN unfair sanctions on Iran over the nuclear dispute.
He made the remarks in a joint press conference with President Hassan Rouhani in Tehran on Tuesday.
'I am very happy to visit Iran and would like to congratulate the Iranian president and nation over removal of sanctions.'
In the meeting with the Iranian president, the two sides reviewed issues of mutual interests along with regional and global developments and reached the conclusion that the two sides views and stands are very close, he said.
'We welcome broad based relations and cooperation between the two countries and believe that the two nations have lived for centuries in peace,' he said.
Our history, religion and culture have tied the two nations and the two governments always back each other at international organizations, he said.
Iran and Azerbaijan agreed to jointly fight with international terrorism and back each other at international organizations, said Azeri president.
Yesterday it was declared that the US and Russian governments have agreed on a truce in Syria, he said adding that we are happy for such a breakthrough.
'We believe that before taking any action in Syria, a truce should be declared to establish peace,' he said adding that the Syrian people should make decision on their own fate.
He made it clear that Iran-Azeri stands are very close, reaffirming commitment to non-interference in domestic issues of other countries, saying that Iran and Azerbaijan have set a pattern for the neighboring states.
President Aliyev said that Iran-Azeri model will help terminate and peace will prevail the entire region.
Iran and Azerbaijan have taken effective measures to open North-South transport corridor, he said adding that Azerbaijan will complete the final stage of its railway to reach the Iranian border.
The two countries have a very identical stands on oil policy and held good negotiations on oil and gas cooperation in the Caspian Sea, he said adding that Caspian Sea is common wealth of littoral states with major impact on maintenance of security, peace and stability of the region.
There exists huge grounds for joint investment opportunities in Iran and Azerbaijan and both sides have close cooperation which will bear fruits, he said.
The two governments are willing to expand financial, banking, insurance and tourism cooperation, Azeri president said.
Azerbijan calls for restoration of peace, stability and security in the entire region and the Islamic Republic of Iran and Azerbaijan play crucial role to help restore peace and stability in the region, he said.
Once again I would like to extend my invitation to President Rouhani to pay an official visit to Azerbaijan to help consolidate ties and affinities between the two nations, he said.
Azeri president leading a high ranking politico-economic delegation arrived in Tehran on Tuesday morning and was welcomed by his Iranian counterpart at Sa'abad Historical-Cultural Complex.
In their meeting, the two president signed some 11 memorandums of understanding (MoUs) on economic cooperation in various fields.
