Ghana president: JCPOA paves way for Iran's active role in world

Tehran, Feb 14, IRNA - The nuclear deal paved the way for Iran to play its constructive role in promotion of peace and stability in the Middle East and the world, Ghana President John Dramani Mahama said on Sunday.

He made the remarks in a joint press conference with Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

Ghana president called for cultural, intelligence and practical cooperation in fight against terrorism.

He referred to the Palestinian issue and encouraged all sides to sit and discuss peaceful solutions for the conflict.

Mahama congratulated Iranian nation and government for successful nuclear talks with world powers which resulted the Joint Comprehensive Plan Of Action (JCPOA).

The nuclear deal paved the way for Iran to play its constructive role for promotion of peace and progress in the Middle East and the world, he said.

Ghana president added that Iran and Ghana share similar stances towards regional developments in most parts of the world including Syria, Iraq, Palestine, North Africa and Libya.

The ongoing conflict in the Middle East has no military solution, he added.

Encouraging implementation of bilateral agreements, Mahama said that there are good potentials for cooperation between Iran and Ghana in fields of oil, gas, petrochemicals, agriculture, electricity and cement production.

He also thanked Iran for its support of Ghana in health, education and agriculture sectors.

Ghana president is in Tehran on an official visit to hold talks with senior Iranian officials.

Heading a high-ranking politico-economic delegation, Mahama arrived in Tehran on Saturday night at the invitation of his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani.

The Ghanaian president was welcomed at Tehran Mehrabad Airport by Minister of Agriculture Mahmoud Hojjati who chairs the Iranian side of Iran-Ghana joint commission.

President Rouhani officially welcomed his Ghanaian counterpart on Sunday morning.

Mahama is set to hold talks with Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, his Iranian counterpart as well as Parliament (Majlis) Speaker Ali Larijani.

On Monday, he will also attend a trade and economic meeting of businessmen and enterprises from the two countries.
