Russia supports Iran's full membership in SCO: Putin aid

Moscow, Feb 3, IRNA - Russia supports Iran's full membership in Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO), Russian presidential aide Yury Ushakov said on Wednesday.


He made the remarks in a meeting with Supreme Leaders Senior Advisor for International Affairs Ali Akbar Velayati on Tuesday.

Russia is keen to enhance bilateral and multilateral strategic ties with Iran, the official added.

Referring to the recent Russian president's visit to Iran, he said that Vladimir Putin has ordered providing financial needs of Russian projects in Iran including construction of nuclear and thermal plants.

Velayati arrived in Moscow on Monday to hold talks with senior Russian officials. The visit comes at the invitation of Director of the Russian Institute of Strategic Studies, Leonid Petrovich Reshetnikov.

Velayati also held a separate meeting with Alexander Lavrentiev, Russias special envoy on Syria, on Monday in which they highlighted the importance of resolving the Syrian crisis through intra-Syrian dialogue.
