Tehran supports stability in Lebanon: Deputy FM

TEHRAN (ISNA)- Deputy foreign minister for Arab and African Affairs said on Tuesday that Iran supports stability and security in Lebanon.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian made the remarks while referring to the measures taken by the Zionist regime to convert the holy Qods by constructing Jewish settlements and creating crisis in the region.

Amir Abdollahian described the Zionist measures as the leading ones to bring instability to the region.

He made the description in a telephone conversation with the United Nations Special Coordinator for Lebanon (UNSCOL) Sigrid Kaag.

Over the phone, Amir Abdollahian pointed out to the repetition of the Saudi mistakes about the regional issues including stability in Lebanon.

Referring to the Saturday execution of the prominent Shia cleric Sheikh Nimr by Saudi Arabia, the Iranian diplomat said the action was Riyadh's new strategic mistake.

Such mistake will bring severe outcomes to Saudi Arabia and have negative impacts on the World of Islam and region as well, he said.

For her part, the UN official expressed concerns over exchange of fire between the Zionist regime and Lebanon in south of that country.

Referring to the critical situation in the region, she called on Iran to help Lebanon experience restraint and make a halt to any move that can spread the war out.

The two at the end hoped they would continue talks on Lebanese security soon.
