Afkham calls for fostering Iran-Malaysia ties

Kuala Lumpur, Dec 31, IRNA - Iranian Ambassador to Malaysia Marzieh Afkham said here on Thursday that fostering cooperation between Iran and Malaysia will positively impact process of establishing peace, security and development among Islamic countries and other nations.

Afkham made the remarks in a message addressed to the Iranians residing in Malaysia.

'Iran and Malaysia are two important countries of the Islamic world as well as the vast continent of Asia,' she added.

Afkham reiterated that the communities of Iranian nationals outside the country played a unique role in introducing the rich culture, religious traditions and ancient civilization of Iran to foreigners.

She also urged the Iranian citizens in Malaysia who have always played an effective role in various fields including science, business and culture here to help introduce the Islamic Republic of Iran to the Malaysian government and nation in a due proper manner.

'Iran as a peace loving country attaches great importance to establishing stability, security and prosperity across the globe,' she noted.

The Ambassador further noted that Iran is keen on reinforcing its all-out cooperation with Malaysia in political, economic and cultural arenas.

Afkham, the first-ever Iranian female ambassador after the Islamic Revolution, presented her credentials to the Malaysia's King Abdul Halim Mu'adzam Shah on December 29, 2015.

Formerly a spokesperson for the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Afkham is going to serve as Iran's envoy to the south-east Asian nation.

Her appointment has been described as 'historic' and the beginning of a new era in Tehran, Kuala Lumpur ties by the Malaysian media.
