EEU may discuss cutting customs duties on Iranian agricultural products
The Eurasian Economic Commission (EEC) could discuss the proposal by Russian President Vladimir Putin to reduce the customs duties on agricultural products from Iran, Russian First Deputy Prime Minister Igor Shuvalov said Wednesday.

TEHRAN (Sputnik) According to Shuvalov, on December 21, Putin proposed to his partners from the Eurasian Economic Union (EEU) to decrease customs duties on agricultural goods imported from Iran.

"That's why this [issue] will be thoroughly worked out within the framework of the Eurasian [Economic] Commission, in January. We hope that our colleagues from the council [of the EEC] will consider the issue soon," Shuvalov said during a meeting with Iranian top officials.

The EEU is a bloc conceived to streamline the flow of goods, capital and labor between its member nations, namely Russia, Kyrgyzstan, Armenia, Belarus, and Kazakhstan. It was officially launched on January 1, 2015.
The EEC is the executive body of the five-nation union.

Talks on a free trade zone between Iran and the Eurasian Economic Union could be completed quickly, Shuvalov added.

"They [negotiations] were completed very quickly with Vietnam, it could be done fast here too if all sides show interest," he told reporters.
