Rouhani calls for further Tehran-Astana ties

Tehran, Nov 25, IRNA President Hassan Rouhani here Wednesday said Iran and Kazakhstan should be more active to develop cooperation given the enormous capacities in two countries.

Rouhani made the remarks in his meeting with visiting Kazakh Foreign Minister Yerlan Idrissov.

Describing Kazakhstan as Iran's friend and brother, Rouhani said there are many historical and cultural commonalities between the two nations.

Launch of Iran-Kazakhstan railway through Turkmenistan has not only connected the Persian Gulf to China but also strengthened cordial relations between Tehran and Astana, said he.

Turning to the issue of terrorism, Rouhani said the root cause of that phenomenon should be identified.

In recent weeks, the region witnessed sad and dangerous events caused by terrorism, said Rouhani, adding such incidents can make all regional states apprehensive.

'We should be careful about the future conditions,' said the Iranian President.

If the issue of terrorism is neglected, nothing will guarantee security and stability, added Rouhani.

Also, the Kazakh foreign minister said Iran plays a leading role in bringing security to both world and region.

Kazakhstan is to expand cooperation with regional countries, Iran in particular, Idrissov said.

He said Kazakhstan's President Nursultan Nazarbayev has planned a Tehran visit that will take place in near future.

Such a visit, he hoped, will be the effective step towards achieving goals in line with national interests.
