Tehran, Nov 24, IRNA � The gift of the Russian President Vladimir Putin to Iran�s Supreme Leader is a sign of his respect for Islam, the Iraqi news website Nahrain Net said.

The Russian president presented an ancient copy of Quran to the Supreme Leader during his meeting with Ayatollah Ali Khamenei on Monday.

President Putin was in Tehran to attend the Summit of the 3rd Gas Exporting Countries Forum (GECF) which commenced on Monday.

The Iraqi new website said the copy of the Holy Book presented to the Supreme Leader indicated his respect to the true version of Islam which is represented by Iran in the region not the Islam which terrorist groups claim to advocate that serve the interests of the US.

The act also proves the respect of the Russian president to 30 million Muslims who are living within the territory of the Orthodox Russia, the website said.

The Nahrain Net said the move was also a gesture showing Russia�s interest in more proximity among regions which stands opposite to the West attitude of supporting clashes among civilizations and relgions.
