Russian jet Su-24 has crashed on the Turkish-Syrian border, the Russian Defense Ministry said.
"Su-24 ofthe Russian aviation group has crashed inthe Syrian Arab Republic afteralleged fire fromthe ground," the Russian Defense Ministry stated.
According tothe preliminary reports, the plane was gunned downfrom the ground.
The Su-24 bomber jet was inSyrian airspace atthe altitude 6,000 meters, the Russian Defense Ministry said. The pilots were reportedly able toparachute outof the jet beforeit crashed.
"The plane was located atan altitude of6,000 meters. The fate ofthe pilots is still unknown. According tothe preliminary data, the pilots were able toeject, The circumstances ofthe plane's crash are underinvestigation. The Russian Minsitry ofDefense notes that duringthe flight the plane was located strictly inthe Syrian airspace. It was registered," the statement read.
Two Turkish residents were injured byfalling debris fromthe downed Russian bomber, Ulusal TV channel reports.
