Bulgaria can serve as gateway for Iranian products to EU: Official

Tehran, Oct 18, IRNA Bulgaria can serve as a gateway for the Iranian products to European states, Commonwealth and Asian countries, head of Iran Chamber of Commerce, Industries, Mines and Agriculture Mohsen Jalalpour said on Sunday.

He made the remarks in a meeting with Bulgarian Ambassador in Tehran Christo Polendakov.

He said that Iran can also transit Bulgarian crops to Middle Eastern customers.

'Under the current economic situation, the atmosphere is ready for development of ties and cooperation between the two countries' private sectors.'

Iran's economy was once dependent on petrodollars as well as a remarkable volume of imports but today, joint and long-term cooperation is the focus, he said.

He said that agriculture, herbal medicine, food stuffs, petrochemicals, tourism and transportation are the other areas for economic cooperation and joint firms and brands can be created in the spheres.

Jalalpour contended that holding joint commission, conclusion of preferential tariff and exchanging commercial delegations can help promote Iran-Bulgaria economic cooperation.

He said that an Iranian specialized delegation in the field of agriculture, flowers and saffron will visit Bulgaria in June 2016.

Presence of commercial teams from different countries reveals the world's attention to cooperation with Iran but they should adopt a new attitude towards the country, he said.

Polendakov, for his part, pointed to Bulgarian officials' resolve to consolidate ties with Iran in all fields, saying that he will do his best to help boost Tehran-Sofia ties in all fields, culture and economy, in particular.

Iran boasts of historic, cultural heritage and architectural attractions which can serve as destinations for many European tourists, the envoy said.
He announced Bulgarian foreign minister will visit Tehran in near future.
