Tehran, Oct 18, IRNA British Foreign Secretary Philip Hammond said the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPoA) comes into force today.
18 October marks Adoption Day for the historic nuclear deal agreed with Iran in July, Hammond said in a statement issued on Sunday.
Speaking to mark the day, he said: This is a landmark day for an historic deal, marking the culmination of a decade of talks between the UK, our partners, and Iran.
This will ensure that a nuclear weapon remains beyond Irans reach, thus creating a safer region while opening opportunities for Iran to re-engage with the international community as sanctions are progressively lifted.
Meanwhile, Chairman of the Atomic Energy Organization of Iran (AEOI) Ali Akbar Salehi had said last Thursday that the European Union will officially lift economic sanctions leveled against Iran on Monday (Oct 19).
Immediately after ratification of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the European Union is to officially announce termination of sanctions against Iran and at the same time the US president will terminate some sanctions and suspend remaining sanctions against Iran, Salehi had said.
The next Monday will be the day when the JCOPA will be ratified by the European Union. Ratification of the JCPOA means that both sides have officially accepted it and will declare their approval, Salehi had stressed.
On October 16, the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) in a statement announced that Iran has done necessary cooperation with the UN body and provided it with everything that was essential.
Commenting on the IAEA report, Deputy Foreign Minister for Legal and International Affairs Abbas Araqchi said that following completion of the agency's information, Iran-IAEA cooperation ended and it verified that Iran has done whatever necessary to resolve the outstanding issues.
Delegations from Iran and the Group 5+1 member states (US, Britain, France, Russia and China plus Germany) are to meet in Vienna on Monday to hold the first joint session of the JCPOA implementation.
