On Sunday, the Iranian outfit, comprised of left-handed Noshad Alamiyan, his younger brother Nima, and Afshin Norouzi, chalked up a hard-earned 3-2 win against the North Korean squad in an encounter at the second round of the tournament in the Indoor Athletics Stadium in the resort city of Pattaya, located about 100 kilometers (62 miles) southeast of the capital, Bangkok.
Irans victory over the East Asian powerhouse was precious as it came over a span of six decades, helping the Iranians secure a place in the competitions among the top eight teams.
Earlier in the day, the Iranian mens national table tennis team had defeated Kazakhstan 3-1.
