Ahvaz, Khuzestan prov, Sept 21, IRNA United Nations resident representative in Iran Gary Lewis said an expert team affiliated to the international organization is to visit this southwestern province to explore the situation of Karoun River.
Addressing an international meeting of donors to protect Karoun River here on Sunday, he said the experts are travelling from Geneva to Iran in November.
The first international gathering of donors to protect Iran wetlands was held in Ahwaz on Sunday with participation of ambassadors of Australia, Belgium, Sweden and Norway as well as a deputy of the Austrian embassy in Tehran.
Lewis said the UN expert team will study ways to tackle the problems the river is suffering from.
Given the importance of Iranian wetlands especially from an economic point of view, he said, the United Nations is concerned about their fates.
As for the problem of dust particles which pollute Ahvaz air, he said countries which have the necessary financial resources, knowledge and know-how could help solve the issue.
