Iran, Oman sign gas pipeline study contract

TEHRAN Sept 21 (Shana) Iran and Oman signed the contracts with the consultant firms to study constructing the pipeline to carry gas to Oman on Sunday, a day before arrival of Omani Minister of Oil and Gas Mohammed bin Hamad Al Rumhi to Tehran.

The project involves land and sea parts. The study on the maritime section was handed over to Iranian Offshore Engineering and Construction Company (IOEC), and its contract was signed by Managing Director of the National Iranian Gas Exports Company (NIGEC) and Director General for Planning and Projects Evaluations of the Omani Ministry of Oil and Gas Saif bin Hamad al-Salmani, said Alireza Kameli, NIGEC managing director.

The study on the land section was assigned to Pars Consulting Engineers (PCE), he said, adding that its contract was signed by NIGEC and PCE managing directors.

The project includes laying the 400-kilometer land-sea pipeline from Iran to Oman. According to initial available data, the land part of the gas pipeline extends for 200 kilometers from Rudan to Mobark Mount in southern Hormozgan Province. The seabed section between Iran and Sohar Port in Oman will stretch for another 200 kilometers.

The studies on land and sea parts shall not exceed six and five months respectively, Kameli said.

Iran and Oman agreed in 2013 to construct the pipeline which for 15 years will carry 28 million cubic meters of gas across Persian Gulf to the Omani port.

In the wake of nuclear agreement between Iran and P5+1 group of world powers, increasing number of foreign firms are negotiating investment in the Islamic Republics upstream and downstream energy projects.
